Look left with INDEX and MATCH
An Excel formula exercise from Formuladrill. Solve it with a formula bar on a live sheet in your browser, and it is checked the moment you submit.
The task
The employee name is in the last column, so VLOOKUP cannot reach the salary to its left. Use INDEX and MATCH to return the salary of the employee named in F1. Answer in F2.
What this exercise teaches
INDEX and MATCH work in any direction, because you choose the column to search and the column to return separately.
A hint if you get stuck
MATCH finds the position of the name in C2:C6. INDEX then returns the item at that position from A2:A6.
