Lookups that fail on stray spaces
An Excel formula exercise from Formuladrill. Solve it with a formula bar on a live sheet in your browser, and it is checked the moment you submit.
The task
From Leo: "My commission sheet shows #N/A for most reps, but the names look the same as in the rate table. In C2:C5, work out each rep's commission: their sales times their rate from E2:F5."
What this exercise teaches
#N/A from a lookup usually means two values only look equal. Invisible spaces are the most common cause, and TRIM inside the lookup fixes them.
A hint if you get stuck
The names in column A have stray spaces, so an exact match fails. Look up TRIM(A2) instead of A2.
