Level 6: Work mode Exercise 56 of 68 Pro

Sales by region with messy labels

An Excel formula exercise from Formuladrill. Solve it with a formula bar on a live sheet in your browser, and it is checked the moment you submit.

The task

From Leo in Sales Ops: "Regions were typed by hand, so North shows up as ' North', north and NORTH. Clean each label in C2:C8, then total the sales per region in F2:F4, using the clean labels."

What this exercise teaches

A helper column of cleaned labels is the simplest fix for messy categories. Lock the ranges with $ so the same SUMIF works on every row.

A hint if you get stuck

Clean first: C2 is =PROPER(TRIM(A2)), and the same down the column. Then add up over the clean column: =SUMIF($C$2:$C$8,E2,$B$2:$B$8).

Functions used: PROPER, SUMIF, TRIM
